Updates and Life Changes
31 May 2016
It has been three months since I was last here, at my desk, writing frantically. So I figured I owed y'all an explanation as to why I have been gone for the last few months. It's not just because I was busy because I've been busy and still blogged before.
Here's the thing about senior year. It goes by so fast and you just have to enjoy the moment. In these last three months I was accepted to several colleges, visited most of those universities, committed to a university, went prom dress shopping, went to prom, cut my hair, studied for finals, took AP's, took finals, went to grad night, and graduated high school. So yeah it's been an intense few months. But I guess I neglected this blog because I wanted to fully dedicate myself to the end of my high school life, after all my graduation was four years in the making.
That being said, I will be blogging this summer and will continue to blog in college. So I will be blogging on a normal schedule and I'm even thinking about starting a new blog? Let me know what you think about that! I'm really excited for the new the new posts that should be up on here soon! I've really missed being here and talking about books.
Anyways that's it for this post, Thank you for being patient with me!

There are a plethora of fictional character deaths that have killed me and have pushed me into en era of mourning. After watching an episode of The 100, I have found myself back in the abyss of mourning. Now if you watch The 100 and are currently caught up, you know I'm talking about. Now that person's death was messed up not just because it happened but because of the way it happened and the events leading up to it. #lgbtfansdeservebetter.
1. Denial: NOPE THIS IS NOT HAPPENING. THIS IS A DRILL.
Usually one goes into shock after witnessing or reading the death of a fictional character. Usually I take a step back and try to process the event while crying while pretending it never happened. From here I will finish the T.V episode or stop reading and ignore the fact that someone died. Then I try to create theories where that person comes back to life. This never lasts long because eventually I go on tumblr...
2.Anger: WHYYYYY???? WHYYY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?????
2.Anger: WHYYYYY???? WHYYY WOULD YOU DO THIS TO ME?????
Now this doesn't always last very long but I get angry. Usually, while on tumblr I meet fellow fans who are just as lost and confused and daze as I am. This daze of shock soon wears off and we get angry because it's just not fair. It never is.
3.Bargaining: This is the point where you plead for that character to come back. You wish and wish and wish. You try to imagine some new storylines, a better one, one where your fav is not dead.
Depression:*sniffles* *plays sad music* *holds a box of tissues to chest*
Acceptance: I'm glad this person existed, I will miss you.
3.Bargaining: This is the point where you plead for that character to come back. You wish and wish and wish. You try to imagine some new storylines, a better one, one where your fav is not dead.
Depression:*sniffles* *plays sad music* *holds a box of tissues to chest*
This typically lasts the longest for me. This is the part where you cry and cry and cry because there is nothing left to do. You mourn the loss of your fav and try to piece yourself backtogether in order to finish that book or that T.V show, or in some cases never return. Both are valid options. By this point I'm still on tumblr because tumblr gets me looking at quotes, gifsets, all of it and crying because that person will never exist in this world again
Acceptance: I'm glad this person existed, I will miss you.
Fanfiction is such a lovely thing. Now hear me out, fanfiction might seem like you're not moving on but in reality it's a way for you to allow those characters to live on in a parallel universe or something. By this point you know that they're are gone, but there's no harm in adding to the story. If you are not a fanfiction person then this is the point where you branch out and find another book, movie, show etc that makes you happy.
Unfortunately there are some fictional deaths we just won't ever get over. But we all go through it and we all make it onto the other side. So what are some fictional deaths you can't get over? how do you cope/not cope?

Happy Valentine's Day! Today is the day we celebrate all the love in our lives whether it's romantic, familial, or platonic. Personally I think today is a little bit overrated with the roses and the chocolates and the giant teddy bears. You shouldn't really need a day to but someone you care about something sweet. But regardless, I do like this holiday and there are no shortage of romance movies you could watch. Here are a few of my favorite
1.Stuck in Love.
This is one of my favorite movies ever! It's got everything you could ever really want in a movie. It's cute and funny and tragic.
2.10 Things I Hate About You.
How could you not love this movie?
3.Friends.
Okay I know this is not a movie and I now it's not really in the rom-com section either. But, hear me out on this, it's a great thing to watch with your friends on Valentine's day. It's the perfect binge watching show.
4. Silver Linings Playbook
I love J-Law and her role in this movie is amazing! This is heavier than the other movies I'll list but I think the story is amazing and why not watch it today?
5. How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days.
This movie is hilarious and adorable!
6.Imagine Me and You
It's a cute rom-com that I absolutely adore! Some of my favorite quotes come from this movie.
"Don't Forget me."
"I won't remember anything else"
7. Love, Rosie
I rented this movie last year over summer break and I fell in love with it! It takes place in both America and Britain. Its a great story about being in love your best friend at all the wrong times. Plus I'm a sucker for British accents.
8.50 First Dates
It's one of the few Adam Sandler movies I actually like.
9. Like Crazy
This is a kind of poetic story about love and relationships and how life makes those relationships work. Its a little frustrating at times but I honestly really enjoyed it!
10. He's Just Not That Into You
Because how could I not list this movie?
11. Spanglish.
I first watched this movie with my sister and didn't really get the plot but now that I'm older I really enjoy this movie.
12. Rent.
Not gonna lie I did cry. I also ended up singing a lot of the songs from this musical. Also not really ashamed about either statement. This is a great movie about a group of people struggling with life but trying to make the most f it by having fun and falling in love.
13. The Prince and Me.
Don't judge. This is a cute movie,
14. Shakespeare in Love.
How could I not list this movie! It's a tragic love story about two people who can't be together. Sound familiar?

First Motivational Monday of the year! To be quite frank it's the first one in a long time. Recently I've started my second semester of my senior year. This means two things.
1) Senoritis is starting to hit me.
2) I'm really nostalgic.
The first thing kinda gives me more time to think therefore increasing the rate of the second thing. If that makes sense. I've played most of my high school life safe. I've focused on trying to get into different colleges, dreaming of my future college days. However, I've had my fair share of failures. I've failed at tiny things that only I remember and I've failed spectacularly that still haunt me to this day. But those moments I think have created stories and shaped me.
So this week go do you. Be happy, take failure in stride, have pride in your successes. Go make stories that you can tell your grand kids too. Failure is not a bad thing, it's a learning experience, a funny story, or both.
13 November 2015

It's Friday the thirteenth which is bad luck. I'm not really a superstitious person but I thought this would be a fun post to do today. Yes I have been planning this one for a while. So without ado here are my top five superstitions.
1.Finding a penny heads up = goodluck. I kid you not, if I see one tails up I will flip it over for someone else to pick up. This is one of the few that I actually do practice. I'm not sure I believe the whole "luck" thing but I think it's a nice thought to find one or to help someone else get some "luck"
2.Opening umbrellas indoors is badluck. I may not think it's true but I'm definitely not going to test that hypothesis.
3.Knock on wood. No one wants to jinx themselves. Better be safe than sorry right?
4.Breaking a mirror = 7 years bad luck. So apparently Romans believed that humans were renewed in 7 year cycles and because a persons soul and reflection were intertwined when a person's reflection was shattered so was their soul, until the seven years were up.
5. Sneezing. I read this book once that said that when you sneeze your soul leaves your body for a little bit. So to protect your soul someone has to say "bless you" or the like. I did some research and that seems to be the common consensus on this one.
Here are my top five! What are yours?
31 October 2015
"This is Halloween, this is Halloween
Pumpkins scream in the dead of night
This is Halloween, everybody make a scene
Trick or treat till the neighbors gonna die of fright
It's our town, everybody scream
In this town of Halloween"
So it's Halloween which means I have a costume ready to show you. I'm actually really excited for this costume! So this year I'm... JEMMA SIMMONS
"It's true what the other guys say-- you are the smartest person to come through here."
"Is that what they say? Yeah, well, Simmons is probably smarter, technically, but that's because she likes homework more than life itself."- Fitz
"I have a duty to you, sir, as my commanding officer. But I also have a duty as a S.H.I.E.L.D. scientist to pursue this, to save lives!" - Simmons
"It's science, Fitz! I have to dissect something!"- Simmons
"Nine of the longest days of my life. When it finally broke, he couldn't speak. He just stared at me, confused. All I wanted to do was help him. All I wanted was... My best friend back."-Simmons
I've been obsessed with Agents of Shield and I love Jemma. She's just plain awesome. This costume was pretty easy to recreate and I had fun talking in a British all day. My friends dressed up as other SHIELD agents so it was amazing. Shout out to my friend who made my badge and my ID card!!
Hope you have an awesome Halloween filled with candy and spooky movies!
28 October 2015
It's that time of year when those of us who lose track of time, or are lazy, realize that Halloween is coming and we don't have a costume. This year I actually had some time to figure out a costume but it fell through because finding a 1940's suit is actually really hard to find. So I went with a new costume which I will reveal on Saturday! Anyways, here are some easy costumes you could pull together.
- A SHIELD agent
- This is actually a lot easier than you would think.
- What you need: Black everything, a leather jacket if possible and some combat boots. You can print a SHIELD logo and stick it onto an ID holder so that you seem like a legit agent. You could also attach the SHIELD logo to your shirt or jacket.
- It would also be funny if you went up to random heroes and say "I'm here to talk about the Avenger Initiative"
- A cat/Bear
- Ik this one is soo overdone, but it is really simple to do.
- What you need: Wear all brown or all black. You could totally make this cute and wear a skirt, dot and knee high socks, or casual with a t-shirt and leggings. As for the ears I think this would be cool
- A pineapple
- What you need: A yellow dress and a green headband and green construction paper. All you have to do is cut strands and attach it to the headband so that they stand up
- Miranda Sings
- What you need: lots of red lipsticks, an oversize shirt and red sweatpants.
- A Super Hero
- This is also a little overdone but I think it's pretty cute.
- What you need: A tutu, tights, and your superhero of choice t-shirt.
- A Unicorn
- What you need: something white and a DIY horn which you could learn to make here. You could also make a simpler unicorn headband with construction paper and an old headband
- Sam/Dean Winchester
- I was Sam last year and it was pretty easy to recreate. All you need for same is a flannel either an olive coat or brown leather jacket, jeans and combat boots.
- For Dean you need a black tee, a flannel or leather jacket, jeans and combat boots.
- You can also make yourself an FBI badge to go along with the costume.

I started this post with the intention of doing a motivational Monday post then realized that this was more of a rant/opinion/here are my thoughts on this quote thing. To be frank this post feels a little all over the place but it sas fun to write so i hope ita fun to read.
This quote is one of my favorites from one of my favorite movies and books "This Is Where I Leave You". I watched the movie first and just had to read this book. This quote stood out to me because I could relate to it, it struck a chord, cheesy as that sounds.
This is my senior year. The last year of the most stressful years of my life to date, then again I've only been alive for 17 years. I keep waiting for all of that to just hit me. For me to just wake up and realize that soon i'm going to have to try to be a functioning adult, It's probably not even going to actually hit me until I'm at prom, at graduation, at move in day. I'm going to look back and realize that I'v actually grown up already. That I've let go of being a kid. And it's sad. It's sad to think about the things I've given up, that everyone has to give up to be an adult, to be grown up. It sucks so much. Just because I'm turning 18 next year doesn't mean I'm full fledged adult, it just means I have to take care of more things and let go childish notions and ideas. It's sad.

I've been gone for a while and I'm so sorry for that. I'm going to try and be better with my blogging, but life is just so hectic right now that it's hard to promise anything. So I thought it was about time I did an OOTD for you guys! *Disclaimer this post is sponsored*
So I recently fell in love with high wasited trousers but it took me a while to figure out how to wear them. That's how this post came to be. High wasited trousers look best with crop tops. The length balances out the high wasited-ness.
You could also do a tighter fitting crop top like this or just a tighter fitting shirt. A cute loose top tucked in would also look really cute.

Have you ever heard of Eventbite? Well it's pretty cool. It allows you to manage events, sell tickets and make events an easier experience! They help me to find events locally so today, I wanted to share one of my favorite local events with you!
So one of my favorite things is going out to the Magnolia "Ladies and Gent's Night Out". It's the last Friday of every month and my friend and I try to go every time it's up. There's a bunch of food trucks that sell anything from lobster to fried ice cream. I have yet to try the fried ice cream but I'm definitely going to next time! It's pretty awesome. They also have live music which is always a good idea.
My favorite place on Magnolia is Romancing the Bean. It's got amazing coffee and delicious pastries! My sister and I discovered this place last year and are obsesses with it, especially their chai lattes!
Without further ado, here are the pics from the event!
Romancing the Bean is a super cool, super cute place to chill, read, write, or hang out with friends. Also how cool is that truck? There a few "store" trucks, that have some pretty cool things.

In addition to have really good coffee Romancing the Bean also has a little shop area that has some cool things.
This food truck is amazing! It's so cute and the cupcakes are beyond amazing!!

So I'm back in school. I've survived my first week and i'm about to start my second. My classes are hard and I'm honestly a little scared of them. I'm going to do my best and learn to be okay with that. If school wasn't enough, I have college apps to worry about to. In other words i'm going to be really busy most of the time. My stress level is going to be at an all time high but I just have to remember to breath. Breath and just do what I have to do. At this point in time my priority is going to have to be my college apps. Unfortunately that doesn't leave a lot of time for the things I do love to do.
I'm not going to be blogging as often and when I do it's probably going to be sporadic. I'll try and post on Saturdays for now, but I might throw a Motivation Monday, or a Whatever Friday, or something here and there. I'm really sorry about this, I know it sucks and that it's annoying. Anyway, I figured I owed y'all an explanation as to why my blog is going to be a little cray at the moment.
To all my people who started school already, we can do this, we can survive this year. We are strong and awesome. It's as simple as that. To everybody else who hasn't started school, good luck, don't be afraid, you got this!
Now for the fun part! Since school often requires us to stay up late and lose precious hours of sleep, caffeine is something of a necessity. So I thought I would share a recipe I found for some awesome coffee! (if you're not a coffee person, green tea is a good alternative)
Caramel Macchiato Frappuccino
Ingredients
¾ cup fresh espresso or double strength coffee, use a caramel flavor if you can find it
¾ cup milk (soy, rice, low fat, 2%, whole, etc)
3 tbls Torani Caramel syrup
pinch of xanthan gum (about 1/16 tsp)
2 cups ice
Instructions
In a large blender, add warm coffee and xanthan gum and process on slow speed for about 30 seconds. (The warm coffee helps to completely blend in the xanthan gum.)
Add milk and caramel syrup and blend for about 15 seconds just to combine. Finally, add in ice and blend on high power until ice is completely crushed and blended into coffee mixture.
Pour into a large cup and top with whipped cream and a drizzle of caramel sauce if desired.
Enjoy! Happy Studying! Or just staying up late!

So I just finished my first week of school yesterday. Let me just say that this semester is going to be crazy busy. My classes, I found out, and expected are going to be a lot of work! But other than the drowning in homework thing, school's been pretty cool. Anyways I figured I would do a fun little style post that's sponsored by Dresslink. They have a lot of cute clothes that are really inexpensive. So without further ado, here's my wishlist!
- Lose Crop Top: Super cute with high waited skirts or shorts. I love the boho look!
- Striped Oversized T-Shirt: I just love oversized things. This is gonna be super comfy plus easy to pair with jeans and cardigans.
- Polka Dot Crop Top: I'm obsessed with polka dots!
- Snitch/ Harry Potter Bracelet: Because I love Harry Potter. Do I really need to explain this one?
I know a lot of these are summary but it's still super hot out where I love. Just the other week it reached over 100 degrees. We don't really get "autumn" here, unfortunately. But it does get a little chilly, Hope you liked my wishlist!
What's on your wishlist?

So I've been thinking a lot about school. I've been thinking about how crazy my life gets, how crazy I get. Then I get really, really nervous. While I'm super psyched to start my senior year i'm plagued by my fears and anxieties. Then I decided that I needed to stop being so scared about what tomorrow was going to bring and just enjoy today. I needed to learn to let go and just breath. There are a lot of things I need to work on this school year. That got me thinking, why not just start a list of goals and things to improve or change this school year. Here are my goals for this school year.
- Stop being so apologetic and just be fearlessly me. I'm a shy person and that is probably never really going to change but I don't have to be sorry about the way I am. I'm proud of who I am, I'm the first to fangirl over Harry Potter and freak out over my latest OTP. But I feel like I need to take that confidence and bring it to a bigger scale. I need to be unafraid to be myself in a world that asks me to be small and quiet. I am tired of making myself smaller for other people, toning myself down because I'm afraid of being too much. So this year I'm done trying to cater to others and just be loud and crazy (if I feel like it)
- Talk to people more. It's not going to kill me to strike a conversation with someone in class. It's not going to be the end of the world if someone doesn't like me. I'm going to try and talk to people more, try and make some new friends while I'm it. Though as a shy girl, i'm probably going to take baby steps with this.
- Take care of myself more. Lately I've talked a lot about practicing self care, about putting yourself first. I'm the first to admit that I tend to want to take care of other people before myself. I know that I have a bad habit of putting school ahead of my own needs. I'm a work in progress and while I am taking care of myself I know I could be doing a much better job at it.
- Get grades I'm happy with. Every year I set the bar high. I want straight A's and I'm going to work my butt of to get them but if the best I can do is a B i'm going to be happy with that. Over the past year I've learned that we are more than the value we assign to a red mark on a test. I've learned to be okay with the best I can do instead of beating myself up because I'm not good enough.
- This includes AP tests and SAT scores.
- Wear outfits I feel great in. This means different things to different people. For me it means putting in extra effort into outfits. I've made this goal every year since freshman year and I think I've done a pretty good job at fulfilling this goal. This year is going to be no exception
- Volunteer more. All of my high school life has been spent pouring my heart and soul into my school work. That doesn't leave a lot for volunteering so I want to make more of an effort this year.
- Drive. I'm 17 and I still don't have my licence. I need to get on it!
- Make an effort to hang out with my friends. This is it. This is my last year of high school I want to be sure I make a ton of memories with my friends. I want to spend my time laughing with them, planning out prom together, freaking out over college apps with them.
- Finish college apps two weeks before they are due. I just need to be sure that everything is the best it can be. That means finishing early so I can fix any last mistakes and I don't have to be worries about my application not going in.
- Stay organized!!! I always start off the year really organized and I usually falter a quarter of the way in. I want to make it more of a permanent thing. So I decided to start a bullet journal because I've heard great things about the system. So here goes nothing! (click here to find out more about bullet journal)
- Make more time for the things I love. Sometimes school gets in the way of me doing things for fun. So I want to make more of an effort to write and read and dance and taking pictures. I want to have time to watch 3 movies in a row and binge watch my latest obsession on netflix.
What are your goals for this year? Let me know in the comments below!

School can be the source of a lot of stress, anxiety, and other not so pleasant emotions. School can become crazy and that craziness can be a defining part of your life as a student. Since I am a senior this year I figured I know a thing or two about dealing with all the crazy. So here are some tips and tricks to help you survive school, maybe even thrive. Today I'm going to talk about tests, friends, orginization and other random stuff.

Random Tips:
- Don't try and be cool and fit in. It's not worth it. Just be you and find people you can be you around. That "cool" circle is not as awesome as it seems.
- Makes lots and lots of playlists! Trust me it's cathartic and helpful. Plus they're awesome when you do have to work late.
- Dress in what makes you feel comfortable and happy.
- For me that means dressing up, wearing skirts and dresses and all that jazz. If you feel like you look good, you'll feel good. What you wear affects how you act.
- Takes a lot of pictures. Trust me when you feel nostalgic you'll want to look through some pics.
- Say yes to going out with friends. Even if you don't feel like going out, it usually ends up being worth it.
- Follow some Studyblrs on tumblr (if you have one). They post a lot of helpful things plus it's motivating to see other people get so intense about studying! Plus they have lots of stuff to help you get orginized.
- I follow: Studivation, Lil Study Corner, Me Learning to Study, Study Blog, The Orginized Student
- Follow my tumblr here
- Always have perfume and deordorant handy. Trust me this is just a necessity.
- Don't be afraid to put yourself out there. A lot of the memories that make me smile or laugh started because I decided to ignore my shyness and anxiety and just go for it.
- Youtube has a lot of tutorials for everything you need. Use 'em.
- Crash Course is crazy helpful!
- You can often find power points or outlines for textbooks here. I find them really helpful!
- Don't join a billion clubs because you think it looks good for colleges.
- Join a select few that you feel the most passionate about.,
- Maybe even start one.
- Always have a person you can talk to.
- I can not stress how important this is. There are going to be days that suck so much thats it's impossible to bear it all on your own.
- It can be a friend, a sibling, a parent, or a therpist. It's important to have someone to listen to you vent and offer some advice without being judgemental
- Priotoize your health first, then your relationships, then school.

Things To Get Done Before School Starts:
- Clean out your closet. Time to take inventory of what you have so you know what you need. This gives you the opportunity to change your style, if you want to, or just get rid of some old things. ( There will be an OOTD inspiration post)
- Make a list of what you think you need. If you're not sure where to start try shopping just the basics: Jeans, short/skirts, and printed and solid tops. When buying things try to think of outfits you can make with the item you're buying. If you can think of ways you can pair with clothes you already have or bought then it's a good investment, if you can't, then maybe it's not for you.
- Make Pinterest boards!
- You can make one for clothes to help give you some guidance.
- You can make inspirational posts to help you when school gets tough
- Follow me here: Perks of Reading
- Clean your room. It will make you so much happier to do homework in a clean environment instead of a cluttered mess
- Throw out unnecessary papers and things from last year and make room for the new school year.
- Clean your make-up brushes. Trust me it'll be worth it when the first day comes!
- Go school supply shopping.
- Make a list of what you need. Make sure you you've gone through what you already have first. Basics: Backpack, pencil pouch, pencils, pens, highlighters, post its, glue, folders, binder,planner/bullet journal. (I will be posting an updated School Essentials this week, but here's last years: XXX)
- Finish up any Summer assignments!
- It's always good to finish summer reading or homework at least four days before school starts so you can review before you start the first day. Plus I don't want to be reading the day before school, I want to be watching netflix and treasuring my last few moments as a free person.
- Enjoy the last few days of summer
- Say yes to hanging out with friends.
- Watch netflix all day.
- Read a book or two :)

So it's that time of year. Some of us still have summer left. Some of us are going back to school this month. I'm part of the latter group unfortunately. I still have vocab to do and books to read and it's crazy to think that this is my last week of summer. But I thought that this week would be a great time to do a back to school list. I will be posting every day this week. I'll do some survival tips, a playlist, OOTD inspiration, and other stuff. I think this is going to be really fun!! So to kick off the series here are some books and movies that deal with school stuff.
Books: I actually have to read some books for school so I don't have too much time left to read but I will definitely try to squeeze some of these in
- The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky. High school sucks and I think this book captures the hardships you face in school. It's hard to make friends, it's hard to be a teen preparing for tomorrow, it's hard to be in love. It's an amazing story that just needs to be read.
- Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell. Because it's a story about an awkward, nerdy girl, trying to survive college. You will most likely identify with her at some point of the book.
- The Catcher in the Rye by J.D Salinger. I don't really have a reason for this, it's just an awesome book!
- Harry Potter by J.K Rowling. Let's just pretend for a moment we're all going to Hogwarts and that we all have magical powers.
- A Little Something Different by Sandy Hall. Because who doesn't need a cute love story?
Movies:I'm probably going to watch these and rewatch some marvel films.
- Mean Girls. Because come on, it's Mean Girls.
- LOL. Yes I actually really like the Miley Cyrus movie. I'm not sure why, but I love this movie and I watched it last year before I started school.
- Clueless. It's hilarious! I love everything about this movie!! I actually watched this because a friend told me too, and I loved it!
- Grease. It's a classic! Who doesn't want to sing along to "Your The One That I Want"
- Harry Potter Movies. Its your last chance to have a Harry Potter Marathon! I suggest you start now!!
