He has no plans for college and will probably end up folding men’s shirts for a living. But there are plenty of ladies in town, and with the help of Dean Martin and Seagram’s V.O., life’s pretty fabuloso, actually.Until the morning he wakes up on a random front lawn, and he meets Aimee. Aimee’s clueless. Aimee is a social disaster. Aimee needs help, and it’s up to the Sutterman to show Aimee a splendiferous time and then let her go forth and prosper. But Aimee’s not like other girls, and before long he’s in way over his head. For the first time in his life, he has the power to make a difference in someone else’s life—or ruin it forever. My Musings:
On my Top Ten Tuesday Post  I said I had a love-hate relationship with this book. Now let me explain myself.
This book is beyond amazing. The writing is witty, funny and eloquently written. The characters are three dimensional and you really get a feel of who they are. Not just some shallow character cut outs that you find in some books. Sutter and Aimee are incredibly likable characters. And as i said in my TTT post, I LOVE him. He made me laugh, cry which is pretty much all you can ask from a book. Sutter is guy who loves to party and drink whiskey and seven up. He seems like a simple guy but as you read the book you see all the problems that lie underneath his "I couldn't care less" facade. Enter Aimee, a complete sweetheart. She makes him happy and a good person and reminds him he isn't alone. I love their relationship for the most part. They're a really cute couple!
As for Aimee, I love her too. She reminds me a lot of myself and the way I act in high school. Sutter helps Aimee change for the better; he gets her to stand up for herself and follow her dreams. With Sutter she can be a normal teenager. However being a "normal" teenager also comes with drinking and partying and so forth and so on. I kind of felt that she started doing these things for Sutter more than herself. I guess we all do that sometimes, changes stuff for people we like. Not that we should have to. That part of the book did annoy me. Overall I found her to be a lovable, sweet girl who wanted to go to college, was wicked smart and is amazing!
I liked all the other characters. Well at least as much as I was supposed to. Well I liked Ricky up until the end when he stopped being there for Sutter. Cassidy taught Sutter an important lesson, even if Sutter refuses to acknowledge it. They made good supporting characters. I also loved Bob's father-like character! Sutter really needed him and I liked the scenes they had together.
I liked the story line a lot. I loved Sutter! I laughed and cried and wanted to punch people in the face along with him. I swear he gets himself into all sorts of problems. *SPOILER*Like that fire at his sister's house! *SPOILER DONE*It was all leading up to whether or not Sutter was going to change, whether or not he was going to try and fight for his future instead of just now. I kept waiting for something. For him to realize that he needs to fight for his future and focus on that for a change. *MAJOR SPOILER* IF YOU HAVEN"T READ THE BOOK WALK AWAY NOW THEN COME BACK WHEN THIS POST TURNS BACK INTO GREY COLORED TEXT.
OK so here's my only real problem with the book. The ending. If you've read it you know what i'm talking about. of course you've read it because if you haven't your ruining the book for yourself. I wished that Sutter would have changed his mind about living in the "now" and instead decided to go after Aimee (who was probably heartbroken when she finally figured it out that the boy she loves is never going to move in with her.).  It took me a while to realize what this ending actually was. It wasn't a "bad" ending. It was Sutter coming to terms with his own actions. Granted I wished for a different ending but this book is supossed to be about real life. And in real life we get sucky endings. We get endings we don't want. And that's exactly what the author was trying to show. That life sometimes ends chapters for us in really sucky ways. We just have to accept it and move on. Sutter wasn't ready to commit to Aimee and he knew better than to lead her on. He also had no future planned so he goes to a bar and drinks and he comes to terms with his spectacular now and decides it has all been worth it.
Ok those of you that have not read it can start reading from here. Overall this a great book that is perfect for those of you that love John Green, Stephen Chbosky, and Rainbow Rowel. It will take you on an emotional roller coaster but it will leave you breathless.

Rating: 2.5/5

My Musings:
I'm really sad that I didn't like this book. I wanted to so bad but i just couldn't get in it.When I first read the back cover I thought this book would be an easy fun read. I was excited and looking forward to reading it. Most reviews on goodreads were positive so I decided to go out and buy it. I'm kinda disappointed with the book.
The beginning of the story felt awkward and a little forced. It seemed less like and actual beginning and more like the middle section. I felt like the exposition was interrupted by the busy-ness surrounding Morgan. From the beginning I thought the book was moving too fast and not allowing the reader to connect to any of the characters. To say the least the book had a rocky and awkward start.
I love cheesy stories and cutesy things as much as the next girl does but this book took it too far.I think the reason I felt like this book was cheesy was because the characters were terribly underdeveloped and anything they said or did just felt fake. In fact I often felt like many characters only served the purpose of moving the story along. You only saw one side of Adam and Amy and a lot of their actions were geared to help get Morgan find her dad even if they seemed unrealistic. It was this lack of depth and weight that didn't let me connect to any of the characters. Despite some of the things i disliked about the book there were many scenes I liked. The whole thing with her dad was decent. It wasn't anything special but it didn't seem as awkward and forced as other scenes in the book. Or how she confronted her mom about it. There were many good points in the book despite all the problems in the book.
I have to say that my favorite character was Amy. She was so cute and sweet. She had no filter and said what i was thinking and was never afraid to call out Morgan. She made me laugh and cry. I loved the little side romance she had with Morgan's brother. She did seem a little fake and unrealistic and the whole twist in her story line felt like overkill.
The romance was just not my favorite part of the story. It didn't have any depth. However it was cute so i'll give it that. It was sweet though rather rushed and a bit forced.
Overall I was disappointed with the story and didn't really like it. A major reason i didn't enjoy it was because I just couldn't connect with the characters.

My Rating: 4/5
My Musings:
I cant even begin to count the amount of people who told me I needed to read this book. That they know I would love it. That it was an amazing book worth fangirling over.
Let me say that they were absolutely right. I thought that this book was not going to live up to the hype around it. That i was going to be disappointed. I'm really happy I was wrong. Its beautifully written. I love Cinder's sarcastic voice, Kai's charming personality, and Iko's funny bursts of humor. This combination made for the perfect book cocktail.
Characterization was ok. The only characters that were fully developed were Kai and Cinder. Everyone else we just saw shallow characters that only served to play a simple clean role. I wish we could have seen more of Peony, or learned more about her. Or maybe learned more about Cinder's step family. I get that her stepsisters and step mom and inherently evil and have to play the role of the villains but if we can make Cinderella a cyborg we can learn more about her evil family right? Like why is it that Peony actually likes Cinder? Why hasn't her stepmother poisoned Peony against Cinder. I can't help but wonder if this is going to be explored in future novels? However, Cinder and Kai were well developed for the most part. You got to see the Prince as a sarcastic teenager who has to deal with a lot political issues. Cinder just wants to fit in somewhere.
The plot and world building was absolutely amazing. I loved how fast past the novel was. There was always something around the corner ready to happen. And I loved every second of it. As soon as I started it i was hooked. I needed to learn more about this world and how things worked in this futuristic place. I had to learn more about Cinder's life and about the politics of the Commonwealth. The author did a fantastic job in terms of creating a futuristic world that felt believable. I loved the plot. I loved Cinder's role in it.
*SPOILER: I knew after Cinder found out she was Lunar that she was the long lost princess. I did like this twist though. SPOILER DONE*
Romance factor of this novel was beautiful done. I liked that the story didn't revolve around Kai and Cinder. It just happened to be a factor of the story not the star if it. I liked how they fell in love and how their relationship developed. It was slow and cute, exactly my type of romance. I loved how they both share their sarcastic humor. Kai is such a gentleman and you can see he genuinely cares about Cinder. He is absolutely adorable. I love him
Overall this book contained amazing story line within a well created world with really likable characters. Its a great read that I think is worth reading and yes fangirling too :)

Night Before Our Stars Review + Random Ranting/Fangirling

12 June 2014

Okay so my review might be a little late, but I figured better late than never.
If you read the book you know that there is no way to watch this without bringing tissues. So I did. I walked into the movie theater, clutching the poster and the bracelet in one hand and my tissue box in the other. I read the books and I knew there was absolutely no way I was not going to cry. I have to admit I wasn't actually too worried about the movie. The trailers and John Green's approval of the movie made me feel like this could actually be a good movie
As the movie started everyone in the theater started to scream. My friend whispered to me "all the fangirls are here right now". I replied "I know i'm one too". You could tell that everyone in the theater loved this story and where excited to see this story come to life. In other words there was a lot of screaming,"awwing", and sobbing. It was a great experience because I knew everyone in there was just like me; ready to see this beloved story come to life.
The movie itself was amazing. Like literally I have no words to describe the perfection that is this movie. The actors really became Hazel and Gus and Issac. It felt so familiar and new all at once. I loved how true to the book the movie was. They did leave out a few things but to be honest I didn't even care. Most book to movie adaptations change the story too much, this movie didn't do that and I think that's what made everyone one love it. It satisfied the fans of the book and made those who were unfamiliar with the story fall in love with the story and the characters. The thing I loved most about it is that it kept the the message the same. It proved how a short life can still be a good one and that to live a good life you don't have to be loved by many, you just need one.
The acting was phenomenal. The acting was so sincere and genuine. Ansel Elgort really was Gus for me. He brought out this boyish charm that I always pictured Gus having. And when the cancer came back Ansel really delivered in terms of the vulnerability and emotion. It was perfect. I legit started sobbing as soon as he brought Hazel out to the bench and uttered the saddest sentence in the history of life: "I lit up like a Christmas tree Hazel Grace". I didn't stop crying until the end. I'm not even ashamed. I'm actually surprised I didn't cry more. Shailene Woodley was so good. I sobbed when she sobbed, laughed when she laughed. It was just like the book.
Okay now for the soundtrack. I really LOVE the soundtrack. I got it as soon as I got home and have been listening to it nonstop since. I'm listening to it right now. I'm listening to Tee-Shirt by Birdy. I think that the music really captured the emotions of the film and were perfect for the film. I can't tell you just how much I love the music for the movie.
If you haven't watched the film yet I suggest you do, like soon. Its amazing and totally worht the tears you will shed. You will walk out feeling the same as when you read the book. You will see life and love and pretty much everything differently.

Dear Augustus Waters...

06 June 2014

A book should be simple right? It’s just a bunch of pages with scribbles in them. Nothing special whatsoever.  I think we both know that’s not true at all. Books carry messages and themes and motifs that we can relate to. They hold the power to make us laugh in the middle of class during a test or make us sob uncontrollably at three am. It’s kind of like when you read an Imperial Affliction. The book suddenly meant so much more than a thing with words in it, it was something kind of magical. That’s how I, and a lot of other people, feel about your story.

Your story. You deserve way more than the number of pages you got. But then I think about how many stories I've read and the lengths of each one. A short book doesn't suck because it's short. In fact, it can be amazing, full of wonder and myriads of great feats. And that super big and long book in the corner of the library, it could be the most boring thing in the history of the world. So maybe it’s not about how long your story is, but what you do with the words and pages you have? And I have to say you've done a remarkable job. I guess Gus, we just get lucky with time, with our talents and whatever, but in the end it doesn't matter if you don’t do something with it. I know you wanted to change the world, and make people remember you. In the end you did. You changed Hazel’s world, Isaac’s world, your parents’, maybe even Peter Van Houten kind of.And I think that, that is more than enough. Changing, impacting, influencing people for the better, well I think, and I’m sure many people will agree with me when I say, that’s a great way to live life.
And outside of the book, in reality, you did leave your mark on the world. I mean come on, your trending on Twitter.  Obviously people like you. Like a lot.I guess the important thing isn't that people will remember your name but who you were as a person and your personality and whatnot. So thanks for being awesome. Don’t let that go to your head okay? Good. In the book it took 172 pages for all us readers to fall in love with you. And now you've made so many more people fall in love with you. Maybe it’s because you remind people that nice people still exist. Or maybe they just really like your somewhat pretentious but still lovable metaphors. I’m voting for the latter one. What can I say? I’m a sucker for guys who use figurative language in their day to day lives.
I'm writing this at 1:00 am and I just ate a box of starbursts and I’m crying. Now I’m a professional fangirl and I tend to overreact just a tad when it comes to my favorite books and my favorite characters. Just ask anyone of my friends. But see the thing is characters,to me and a lot of other people, aren't just words on a page, people on a screen. They’re real people. They are as real as the book sitting on my desk and the person living next door to me.So you were my friend while I read the book and watched the movie and even after, and maybe I sound a little weird when I say this, but like I said I get overly attached to characters and I wouldn't have it any other way. Not because I don’t have friends. Because I do, I totally do. But because I love being connected to those whom I read about. There are some fictional deaths that you just can’t get over. Yours is one of them.  Maybe it’s because you seemed so real, or because we could all relate to you.  But either way your death broke our hearts. It was like losing a friend. But you, you reminded us that we don’t need to do amazing things to be amazing we just have to be good people and be remarkable for the people we love. And that’s more than enough.

I've been thinking a lot about what Hazel said about infinities. About how some infinities are smaller than others. I agree with her. Sometimes forevers aren’t forever and sometimes they far longer than eternity. I’m so happy that you got a small infinity with Hazel, your perfect girl. I guess what I’m trying to say is that each one of us who read this book, or saw the movie, or both, got to part of this small little infinity too. We got a mini infinity filled with Hazel’s words, your metaphors and Isaac's humor. And I guess I’m thankful for that. I think we all are.
So Gus, I wrote you this letter because I needed you to know what you and this story meant to me and people like me. And you mean a lot to us. You've all shown us what a great life is and what it needs to be and what it doesn't. This letter is kind of jumbled and all over the place but it’s like you said, “My thought are stars I cannot fathom into constellations". Gus, what is there left to say but you made me smile more than any other book character ever and like I said before, I’m glad John Green wrote this book and gave us readers a small infinity with you and Hazel.

Rating: 5/5

My Musings:
I've been fangirling over Fangirl since before I even read it. I saw it on goodread and I thought to myself if i could ever have a book soulmate it would be this. Among my friends i'm known for my fangirling. It's really bad. I was in the movie theater for Catching Fire a few months ago and some of the previews were book trailers and i legit was squealing and jumping up and down in my seat. OVER A TRAILER. Speaking of trailers I can't seem to not cry whenever i watch the full trailer for TFIOS. Anyways i think I've established i'm a fangirl myself.
Ok now for the actual review. I honestly can saw that I fell in love with this book from the get go.
I loved Cath's narrations and the way she thought and described things. I loved her little quirks and her nerdy personality. If she was a real person she would definitely be someone I'd want as a friend. I enjoyed reading about Cath and her journey to become her own person, become, independent, and grow up into such an awesome person. Cath relies on her fanfic about Simon Snow to help her cope with her new found loneliness and her ever present shyness. This aspect of the story was great. It didn't overwhelm the book, but served its role. We even get to read snippets.
Character-wise, Rowel did amazing. All of the characters felt real to me and I found myself caring about each one of the characters. I think a sign of a really good book is being able to feel like the story is real and Rowel does this flawlessly. I really like all the side stories that surrounded Cath. Like her sister's story, or her dads. I adore Rowel's witty, smart and funny writing style.
It was interesting to read about Cath's relationship with her family. Poor Cath was thrown into college life without so much as a speck of support and kindness from her twin sister Wren. I found this sad, but at the same time I understood that booth sisters needed to find their identity outside of each other. I loved her dad! he kept pushing her to do what she needed to do but was often to scared to do. And when push came to shove I loved watching Cath's family rally together.
Romance time! Levi. What can i saw other than he is so perfect. I love him to bits. Especially his eyebrows lol. I like when books have a slow burning, slow happening romance because it makes it feel more real, plus you have more time to decide if you ship it. It also determines the strength of the ship. And let me tell you i ship these two so hard. The only slight issue with the book was that at the beginning of the novel i wasn't sure who was the love interest. Weather it was Levi or this other guy named Nick. Aside from the unsure-ness at the beginning, the romance was eloquently written

“Underneath this veneer of slightly crazy and mildly socially retarded, I'm a complete disaster.”

“Happily ever after, or even just together ever after, is not cheesy,” Wren said. “It’s the noblest, like, the most courageous thing two people can shoot for.”

“But you're so helpless sometimes. It's like watching a kitten with its head trapped in a Kleenex box.”

“You give away nice like it doesn't cost you anything.”

“Emergency dance party--go away.”

“Levi's eyebrows were pornographic. If Cath were making this decision just on eyebrows, she would have been "up to his room" a long time ago.”

“When I’m writing my own stuff, it’s like swimming upstream. Or … falling down a cliff and grabbing at branches, trying to invent the branches as I fall.”

Top Ten Tuesday is hosted by the lovely Broke and Bookish. This weeks theme is Top Ten Books that should be in your beach bag.

3) If I Stay is heart-wrenching story, but something I think everybody should read. It's also being made into a movie, get a head start and read it before it comes out!

(P.S I couldn't help but make this four)

8) Hold Still by Nina LaCour was absolutely amazing! As soon as I heard about Everything Leads to You I knew I had to read it! Also isn't the cover absolutely beautiful??

Because I couldn't help it....

Whats your Top Ten this week??

My TBR list

02 June 2014

I was in Barnes and noble yesterday, aka the happiest place on earth, and it dawned on me that I haven't bought a book in a really long time. So a walked over to the YA section and picked out a few choice novels. I walked out of there with a giant grin, good books, and some Starbucks coffee. The perfect outing. So here are the books on my TBR list that I bought/borrowed from the library. Enjoy!

1) I've heard sooo many good things about this book and the series in general. When I saw it Barnes and Noble I just couldn't say no. So I bought it and it has a good home with me. I'm about a quarter of the way in and it's really good!

2) Social media + messed up life + cute boy= A great summer read. I find the premise of the book so interesting. Can't wait to read!

3) Seems really interesting. It's set in the future where these kids, who are not looking to be heroes, do something that changes everything. They steal a cure. They find themselves in a middle of a war over this new found cure.

3) I've been wanting to read this book for a while but it keeps getting pushed down my very long list of books i want to read. Hopefully by adding it on my official and considerably shorter list i'll actually read it. Plus i really want to read it before the movie comes out. This I got a few months ago as a nookbook.

Dylan O'Brien stars in it. I can't wait. *swoons*

4) It's Kind of a Funny Story has been recommended to me countless times. I legit dove for it the moment I saw it at Barnes and Noble. I'm pretty sure people thought I was crazy. I'm really looking forward to reading it! I think this is one of the books I'm most excited about on this post.

5) I pre-ordered this book on my nook a few days ago. It's about Amy who has cerebral palsy and Mathew who has OCD who become friends and maybe something more. I love the idea behind the books and have heard nothing but good reviews. I'm sooo psyched and ready to fangirl over this book!

Love Letter's to the Dead Book Review :)

01 June 2014

 Release Date: April 1st 2014

Book: Love Letters to the Dead
Author: Ava Dellaira
Genre: YA
Source: Barnes and Noble

The Basics: It begins as an assignment for English class: Write a letter to a dead person. Laurel chooses Kurt Cobain because her sister, May, loved him. And he died young, just like May did. Soon, Laurel has a notebook full of letters to people like Janis Joplin, Amy Winehouse, Amelia Earhart, Heath Ledger, and more; though she never gives a single one of them to her teacher. She writes about starting high school, navigating new friendships, falling in love for the first time, learning to live with her splintering family. And, finally, about the abuse she suffered while May was supposed to be looking out for her. Only then, once Laurel has written down the truth about what happened to herself, can she truly begin to accept what happened to May. And only when Laurel has begun to see her sister as the person she was; lovely and amazing and deeply flawed; can she begin to discover her own path. (from goodreads)

Rating: 4/5

My Musings:
When I went to the LA book festival this past April I went to go see Stephen Chbosky in a panel. Chbosky was interviewing Ava over this new book. After Ava read the description and a few pages from the book I was hooked. I had to know how this story began and ended.  As the panel went on I couldn’t think of a reason to not buy this book. And so I did.
The story is sad and dark, and it’s told though letters. I love this aspect of the book, I feel like it was a perfect way to tell Laurel’s story. She writes to Kurt Cobain, Amy Winehouse, River Phoenix, John Keats (one of my favorite poets), and countless others. She relates to each one of the people she writes to. Whether it’s though shared pain, family problems, or even love and it’s through these letters that she begins to grow as a person and move forward and away from her grief. Each letter helps her understand her sister, May, better as well as the decisions she made, but most importantly she’s able to learn to see herself without May.
I also loved the side story lines with her friends Hannah and Natalie. I loved how the author made Hannah and Natalie a couple. I really like this aspect of the story .The only thing I have to say about them is that it was heartbreaking to read but beautiful to see grow.
I think Laurel put her sister up on a shiny pedestal where nothing and no one could touch her. I can relate because in a lot of ways that’s how I see my own older siblings. I just felt like she never let herself see her sister the way she was away from Laurel. May liked to party and she liked boys that were bad for her and she was terribly lost.  Laurel throughout the book refuses to acknowledge May as nothing short of perfect. While I understood Laurel’s P.O.V. I wished she could have accepted May’s faults sooner in the book.
The writing style was short and concise with a magical metaphor here and there.  Laurel’s narrative was simple and straight forward. There was no reading between the lines or looking for multiple meaning because every word Laurel said was exactly what she meant.  Some people might find this to be annoying or boring, but I actually liked it because it was written the way a 15 year old girl would write things not some fancy author who knows how to use big words. The simple language helps Laurel be more real because she talks like one.
Ok now for the romance. *waggles eyebrows*. Alrighty then. I love Sky I do. I think he’s sweet, kind, and the type of boyfriend I would LOVE to have.  The only problem I had with the romance was the way it developed. At first it seemed like it would take the whole books for them to get together, but then things sped up and fell together sort of cheesiliy. But then again it’s high school, so some cheese is permitted.
I really enjoyed reading this book. I shed a few tears, laughed along with Laurel and fell in love with each of the characters. This book is definitely worth reading and fangirling over.  I promise you it’s a beautiful story
